BeforeYouSign

FAQ

Common questions about BeforeYouSign and how to use it responsibly.

Does BeforeYouSign provide legal advice?

No. BeforeYouSign provides plain English information to help you understand documents On The Go! It is not a law firm and does not replace advice from a qualified legal professional.

What can I do with the free version?

The free version lets you upload or scan one standard letter-size document at a time. It is meant for quick, on-the-go help when you need to understand the basics before signing.

Does the app save my lease or personal information?

No. The app is designed not to save or store your uploaded document or review data anywhere. When you close the app, the data is gone.

What does one standard letter-size document mean?

It means one regular letter-size page at a time, such as a single page you scan or upload. Longer documents may need to be reviewed one page at a time in the free version.

Do you support non-English documents?

Not yet. BeforeYouSign only supports English documents at the moment.

Can BeforeYouSign guarantee my lease is safe?

No. The app can help identify clauses and questions worth reviewing, but it cannot guarantee that a lease is safe, complete, enforceable, or suitable for your situation.

What kinds of documents can I review?

The first BeforeYouSign app is focused on residential leases and rental agreements. Future versions may support car financing, employment contracts, and other important agreements.

Who is BeforeYouSign for?

BeforeYouSign is for regular people who need quick, plain English help before signing something. You do not need to understand legal language to use it.

Should I still speak with a lawyer or tenant advocate?

For serious concerns, disputes, eviction issues, major financial risk, or anything you do not understand, you should speak with a qualified professional before signing.

What should I avoid uploading?

Avoid uploading highly sensitive information unless it is truly needed for the review. Since the app does not save your data after you close it, you stay in control of what you choose to scan or upload.
